Greenfield to Endorse Candidate He’d Labeled ‘Racist’

Posted on 17 October 2013 by Community Voice NY

In August, New York City Councilman David Greenfield claimed former federal prosecutor Ken Thompson was an anti-Semite who would “target Jews.” Then after Thompson won his primary bid, Greenfield said he would “monitor” Thompson’s activities. Now, just eight weeks later, sources say Greenfield is about to endorse Thompson.

Following Thompson’s trouncing of incumbent Charles Hynes in the Democratic primaries, Hynes switched parties and is running again as a Conservative and Republican candidate for District Attorney in November’s general election. While he sought Greenfield’s endorsement again, Greenfield has opted to do a change-up himself and instead follow the lead of Assemblyman Dov Hikind, who supported Thompson from the get go.

Of course, several questions remain: Will Greenfield publically apologize to Thompson for the race-baiting? And more importantly, now that he’s frightened them, how will Greenfield tell his Hareidi constituents that he no longer feels it necessary to “monitor” Thompson as Brooklyn’s new D.A.?
